Captive Ukrainian soldiers tell about orders to shoot civilians

13.04.2022, Donetsk.

Ukrainian soldiers who surrendered to Russian forces were ordered to shoot civilians, the NTV Russian TV channel reported on April 13.

“The night came, the commander gave an order to shoot civilians, that is, the order was as follows – if we see any movement in the thermal imaging camera, it doesn’t matter whether it is peaceful civilians or not, open fire to kill, the war will cancel everything,” a former soldier of the 53rd Ukrainian army brigade Igor Kudelkin who surrendered to the Russian forces told reporters. According to him, a former officer of the Aidar battalion (organization banned in the Russian Federation) commanded his unit.

The nationalist beat soldiers who were from Donetsk and Lugansk and demanded tribute from them – about 2,000 hryvnias per month. Later, these soldiers were sent to the most dangerous areas of combat.

Another prisoner Sergey Pavlenko, a soldier of the 503rd Independent Marines Battalion, was not going to surrender. He was taken prisoner during the combat.

“A Chechen battalion took me and my friend, we were with them for three days. But I will say that they treated us better than ours there,” Pavlenko said. He told that his commanding officers, having changed their clothes for civilian clothes, stole cars and left their unit, and the officers that stayed behind did not know what to do and were afraid to fight against the Russian army.

According to a statement by Major General Igor Konashenkov, the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, 1,026 Ukrainian fighters surrendered in Mariupol. Among them are 162 officers and 47 female servicemen. All of them were part of the 36th Marine Brigade.
