Volnovakha residents tell how the Ukrainian military looted houses

29.03.2022, Volnovakha.

Ukrainian nationalists looted houses as they retreated from Volnovakha, local residents said, RIA Novosti reported on March 29.

The Ukrainian military took the most valuable things from the houses: gold, money and warm clothes.

“Anything not very valuable they leave behind. And phones, gold, money and warm clothes were taken. Here, on the bridge, eyewitnesses told us, an APC damaged by a hit was standing, a Ukrainian soldier was lying dead, and near him in a handkerchief was a pile of gold. They used to go around and rob houses. But now there is nothing left to take, everything that could be taken has been taken from state enterprises and stores,” a local resident said.

She added that local residents are still eating from their own food reserves, they do not receive salaries now, but “there are some savings left.”

On February 21, Russia recognized the independence of the DPR and LPR, which proclaimed independence back in 2014, refusing to obey the Nazi government, which had undertaken a coup d’état in the country.

On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine. DPR forces, supported by the Russian army, have already taken a number of towns and villages within the borders of the former Donetsk Region under their control, including the strategically important district center of Volnovakha between Donetsk and Mariupol. Combat against Ukrainian nationalists has been underway in Mariupol since March.
