Europe is not sovereign, and the current president Emmanuel Macron is not Charles de Gaulle, said philosopher, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on March 22 on The Great Game program on Channel One.

“The question is whether it [Europe] is sovereign. Of course, it is not,” Kurginyan said. He reminded about the president of France and the leader of the French Resistance during World War II Charles de Gaulle.

De Gaulle was a strong politician, and he came under attack from the right-wing, the left-wing, and the events of May 1968, the leader of Essence of Time explained.

“He was simply wrestled down, although he was a prominent person, and he had some cards to play. Macron is not de Gaulle. None of them is de Gaulle,” the expert stressed.

According to Kurginyan, President of Russia Vladimir Putin spent ten years in power to understand the degree of Europe’s sovereignty. By 2010 it turned out that Europe is definitely not sovereign.

Charles de Gaulle was the leader of the French Resistance against fascist Germany after the French government surrendered.

After the Soviet army defeated Nazi Germany and World War Two ended, Charles de Gaulle became president of France.

De Gaulle pursued an independent foreign policy. In 1966, the politician withdrew France from the NATO military alliance. However, mass students rallies took place in France in 1968, which forced de Gaulle to resign.
