Expert: The World Bank violates its charter by curtailing programs in Russia and Belarus

03.03.2022, Moscow.

The decision of the World Bank to curtail all its programs in Russia and Belarus contradicts its charter and was not even discussed by the Bank’s Board of Directors, a former World Bank official told TASS journalists on March 3.

“At first glance, the management excessed its powers, the decision is illegitimate and was not discussed by the Board of Directors, it contradicts the charter of the organization, since the World Bank should not be engaged in politics,” said the former World Bank official.

This is how he commented on the decision of this international financial institution to immediately stop its activities in Russia and Belarus. According to the decision, the World Bank expressed its protest against Russia’s special operation in Ukraine in this form.

The World Bank noted that it has not approved “a single new loan or investment in Russia since 2014.”

According to the institution, since mid-2020, not a single new loan to Belarus has been approved.

The West imposed new sanctions against Russia due to its special operation to denazify Ukraine, which were primarily directed against the country’s financial system.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of a special military operation to protect the people of Donbass and demilitarize and denazify Ukraine.

Before that, the situation in Donbass sharply worsened. The Ukrainian army conducted regular massive shelling of the positions of the People’s Militia and cities along the entire front line. To do this, the Armed Forces of Ukraine transferred heavy equipment and artillery to the contact line.

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the DPR and LPR in response to a request from the leadership of the republics. This decision provoked a wave of indignation in the West.

Since the beginning of November, the West began to intimidate the world with the revival of the “Russian threat”. The information campaign began with a series of articles in major Western publications, after which senior US and NATO officials entered this game.

At the same time, negotiations on mutual security guarantees between Russia and NATO have stalled. According to Russian diplomats, this blocked negotiations on other issues of strategic security in the world.
