Armed gangs of Ukrainian nationalists, following the example of terrorists in Syria, are using vehicles with large-caliber machine guns in Ukraine, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said during a briefing on February 26.
“Nationalist battalions use so-called ‘bandera vehicles,’ which have enhanced off-road capability and are equipped with large-caliber machine guns or mortars. This tactic is used by international terrorists in Syria,” Konashenkov said.
He also noted that nationalist units are placing artillery and multiple rocket launchers close to the residential areas of Ukrainian cities.
According to him, this is done with the expectation that there will be return fire from the Russian side and civilians will suffer. “The Ukrainian nationalist leadership uses the same methods as the terrorists,” Konashenkov noted.
In the early hours of February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation in Ukraine. He explained this step by the need to protect the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics from the nationalist regime in Kiev, as well as the threat from the North Atlantic Alliance, which has already begun to occupy Ukrainian territory and build its military infrastructure there.
