Russian Defense Ministry reports the elimination of six Ukrainian Navy boats

26.02.2022, Moscow.

Six Ukrainian Navy gunboats were eliminated during a naval battle, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said during a briefing on February 26.

According to Konashenkov, the ships of the Black Sea Fleet were attacked on February 25 during an operation aimed at relocating 82 Ukrainian servicemen who voluntarily handed over their weapons. 16 Ukrainian naval boats, shielded by civilians and using “swarm tactics”, attempted to attack the Russian ships.

The purpose of this attack was primarily to revenge the Ukrainian servicemen who had laid down their arms and to accuse the Russian army of destroying the captives,” Konashenkov said. No Ukrainian servicemen were injured as a result of the clash.

He stressed that American RQ-4 Global Hawk and MQ-9A Ripper drones were flying in the sky during the attack of Ukrainian boats.
