The attempt to censor the opinion on COVID-19 vaccination expressed by Patriarch Kirill’s father confessor, Schema-ArchimandriteIliy from the Monastery of Optina was disgraceful and incompetent, said philosopher, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on November 14 in his original broadcast “The Meaning of the Game”
“What was that? To start, what kind of a disgrace was that? And secondly, what kind of an incompetence was that? Iliy said what he said,” Sergey Kurginyan said.
Kurginyan noted that he had a personal conversation with Elder Iliy at the opening ceremony for the monument to Ivan the Terrible in Orel in 2016, and he believes that “he is a very holistic, strong, and a very intelligent person in my opinion.”
On November 3, the Spas Orthodox television channel published an interview with Schema-ArchimandriteIliy on its YouTube channel, in which the host asked the cleric whether one should vaccinate against the coronavirus.
In his reply, Elder Iliy wondered whether those who developed the vaccine are acting responsible for their invention. In his opinion, an untested drug product may “not only heal, but do much more the opposite.”
“We have a law: if a murderer committed an act of evil, and he is covered, condoned, this act of evil persits and multiplies,” Elder Iliy said.
Later it was found that Iliy’s reply was not included in the video published on the YouTube channel of the Spas program. Actress and public activist Maria Shukshina, who watched the Spas program of November 3 before elder’s reply was removed from it, reported this.
Sergey Kurginyan noted that not only the Monastery of Optina, but also the monasteries of Mt. Athos express negative opinions regarding the use of vaccination for the coronavirus.
