Russian Defense Minister: NATO is pulling military forces to the borders of Russia

23.10.2021, Moscow.

NATO does not seek to ensure common security in Europe, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on October 23, the REGNUM news agency informed.

“Against the background of calls for military deterrence of Russia, NATO is consistently pulling forces to our borders,” Shoigu said, commenting on German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer’s words about the need to contain Russia. He noted that the German defense minister should “know very well” how for Europe and Germany the pulling of armed forces to Russia’s borders has ended.

“Security in Europe can only be common,” the minister added. To ensure such security in Europe, Russia’s interests must be taken into account.

But NATO today is unable to conduct an equal dialogue with Russia.

As an example of NATO’s work on “deterrence,” he cited the alliance’s operation in Afghanistan, which ended in disaster. According to him, now the entire world has to deal with this catastrophe.

Earlier, Kramp-Karrenbauer had said on the air of the German radio station that NATO was ready to use military force against Russia, including the use of nuclear weapons.
