DPR representative: Ukrainian army opens fire on the outskirts of Donetsk

19.09.2021, Donetsk.

The Ukrainian army fired six times on Veseloye village, north of Donetsk, using grenade launchers on 19 September. The representative of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) to the Joint Centre for Ceasefire Control and Coordination (JCCCC) reported, as the Donetsk News Agency informed.

“At 3.10 p.m. (Moscow time zone), six grenades from an underbarrel grenade launcher were fired from the direction of Peski village near Veseloye village. Small arms were also used,” the news agency quoted the representative office as saying.

Yasinovataya Mayor Dmitry Shevchenko provided information that Vasilievka (Yasinovatskiy district) also came under fire of the Ukrainian military. “There was a hit in a residential house, as a result of which the glazing of four windows was damaged,” Shevchenko said. There were no reports of wounded or killed.

On Saturday, September 18, the JCCCC reported mortar shelling of Novolaspa village in the DPR.

Since July 27, 2020, additional measures to maintain the ceasefire in Donbass has been in force. The measures were agreed upon by the participants in the contact group for the settlement of the situation in Ukraine. Offensive and reconnaissance and sabotage actions are prohibited, the use of drones, as well as the opening fire and deployment of heavy weaponry in populated areas, are inadmissible.

However, ignoring agreements on additional measures, the situation in Donbass has been escalating since February 2021. The line of contact is subject to intensive exchanges of fire, and both sides are suffering casualties. Ukraine has made accusations of an escalation of the situation on the Donbass side. Donetsk and Lugansk stated that the reasons for the current situation lie in Kiev’s failure to implement the July agreements.
