NATO demands to return control of the Crimean peninsula to Ukraine, NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană said at the Crimean Platform summit on August 23, Interfax-Ukraine reported.
“NATO stands with Ukraine, we demand the return of Crimea, we confirm our readiness to support Ukraine in its fight for freedom,” the newspaper quoted Geoană. “Crimea is Ukrainian territory, and we call on Russia to return control of the peninsula to Ukraine.”
The Deputy Secretary General noted that the alliance supports Ukraine on the path to democratization, including support for the development of the Ukrainian armed forces’ capabilities.
NATO confirms the decision of the Bucharest summit that Ukraine and Georgia will become members of the alliance, Geoană said in his speech.
