Kurginyan: Former Soviet republics have become ferocious micro-empires

31.05.2021, Moscow.

The republics that broke away from the Soviet Union have become much more ferocious micro-empires than the Russian Empire, said political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on May 27 on the Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov program on Russia One channel.

The political scientist recalled Polish President Andrzej Duda’s visit to Georgia, when he insulted Russia as “abnormal”. According to the expert, this visit was organized in order to support the Georgians in their conquest of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

“The most terrible thing about the division of the Soviet Union is that all states that separated from it these so-called Soviet republics suddenly became micro-empires immeasurably more ferocious than the Russian Empire. They immediately started a genocide,” stressed Kurginyan.

The micro-republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia were held hostage by the collapse of the Soviet Union. These republics believed that they once joined not Georgia, but the Soviet Union, under the guarantees of Moscow. “Suddenly all this disappeared, Jaba Ioseliani and the Mkhedrioni appeared, and they began to kill the Abkhazians and Ossetians,” the expert said. He added that despite all the phrases like “For our and your freedom! Everything to everyone!” Georgia became a tyranny like no one could imagine.

The conflict between Georgia and South Ossetia in 2008 resulted in a massacre. The Russian army stopped the bloodshed, but did not enter Tbilisi, although it had, according to Kurginyan, all the opportunities to do it. Russia limited itself to recognizing the sovereignty of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Kurginyan believes that the Polish leader called these events a demonstration of  monstrous Russian imperialism and Russia itself  “abnormal” for a reason. “What does ‘abnormal’ mean? If each of us is now called abnormal, will it have legal consequences? You are recognized as abnormal, so will you be stripped of your rights? How should this be expressed? And how will it be accommodated? If you don’t recognize it, should you be secured in a straitjacket?” The leader of the Essence of Time movement explained that there must be some consistency between words and actions.

Will Georgia join NATO, so that it would restore order there and allow the Georgians to slaughter the Abkhazians and Ossetians, whose sovereignty Russia has recognized? Kurginyan said that a war hysteria begins to gain a momentum on the southern flank of Russia.

Kurginyan stressed that apart of tensions on the southern flank, there is the northern flank with Norway under US domination, as well as Donbass, Belarus, the Caucasus and Transcaucasia.

Turkey is also participating in aggravating the situation on the Russian borders. “The Russian Foreign Ministry directly says: ‘Dear Turkey, if you continue to support Ukraine so strongly, we will sooner or later have to direct attention to this.’ And there is the South Stream pipeline with its own problems,” the analyst added.

“We are on a huge arc (of instability) in a certain pre-war situation that is being imposed on us. It is impossible endlessly refuse to react to this,” said Sergey Kurginyan.

The Mkhedrioni is a Georgian paramilitary nationalist organization founded by the mafia boss Jaba Ioseliani in 1989. It terrorized the local population, engaged in looting and violence. The Mkhedrioni took an active part in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict of 1992-1993.
