18.05.2021, Donetsk.

Several hundred people gathered in Leninsky Komsomol Park to honor the memory of Oleg Mamiyev (callsign: Mamai), News-front informed on May 17.

Former comrades-in-arms, friends, the widow, and children of Oleg Mamayev, representatives of public organizations, the city administration, as well as the chairman of the People’s Council Vladimir Bidyovka came to the monument to Oleg Mamiyev unveiled in 2019 in Leninsky Komsomol Park in Donetsk to honor his memory.

“This is a man of peace. Peace – because he fought in South Ossetia in 2008. He knew before our war what it was like when civilians and children died. He came to us as a volunteer to protect civilians and the freedom of choice of the Donetsk People’s Republic. He was always on the front line, never abandoned his soldiers,” Bidyovka said.

Among those who came to the monument were Mamai’s compatriots, volunteers from South Ossetia:

“This is my commander, from South Ossetia, like me. We were side by side with him when he died. We all came as volunteers. No one forced anyone to come here,” a volunteer from Ossetia with the callsign Amigo said.

Oleg Mamiev, with the callsign “Mamay”, who was commander of the international brigade Pyatnashka, came to Donetsk at the very beginning of the Ukrainian aggression, in 2014. He was awarded many decorations of the Donetsk People’s Republic and participated in many military operations. He was mortally wounded on May 17, 2018 near Yasinovatya, and is buried in North Ossetia. The monument was unveiled on May 17, 2019.
