Ukraine: “There is no more Lenin in our cities”

18.08.2017, Ukraine.

Ukrainian cities are now free of all Lenin memorials, Director of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, Vladimir Vyatrovich, said on August 17, RIA Novosti reports.

According to Vyatrovich, over 1,300 monuments to Lenin have been dismantled in Ukraine.

In 2015, a law prohibiting Soviet symbols went into effect in Ukraine.

According to Ukrainian sociologists of the Sociopolis company, 40% of Ukrainians do not support decommunization.

Editorial commentary

Taking down confederate monuments in the USA demonstrates that such events violate civil peace, which can have serious consequences. The Bandera Nazis came to power through violating civil peace, and they continue to escalate the conflict. The question, as it has been pointed out many times, lies in how patient the discontent part of society is and in its ability to awaken. Hopefully, its patience is finite, and it is capable of awakening.
