Police forced to use gas to disperse protesters in Melbourne

26.06.2017, Australia.

On June 25, police in Melbourne was forced to use pepper spray to scatter anti-racist and right wing groups, who clashed in Melbourne during a rally, SBS News reports.

The clashes occurred when anti-racists appeared in the march conducted by “True Blue Crew“ and “The Sons of Odin“, two Australian nationalist organizations. Several hundred people took part in the action on both sides. As a result, five people were taken to hospital after the police pepper-sprayed them for breaking through a police line. One demonstrator was arrested for carrying a weapon. No police were injured.

Nationalists push to close Australian borders; they protest against the growing number of Muslims in the country, and they call for “preserving the purity of the Australian race”.
