Hero of Donetsk People’s Republic, colonel Arsen Pavlov (callsign Motorola) was assassinated today in Donetsk, DPR People’s Council spokesman Denis Pushilin told Donetsk News Agency.
“Today Arsen Pavlov was killed, it is a big loss for us all,” parliament spokesman said. “According to preliminary information, it was a terrorist attack by a Ukrainian sabotage-recon group.”
Pushilin emphasized that the assassinated commander fought in the militia from the very beginning of the war in Donbass, participated in the key military operations and was a true symbol of struggle against Kiev’s armed aggression.
“Kiev still strives to resolve the conflict by force, but it’s not able to achieve military victory and that’s why it uses terrorist methods,” People’s Council spokesman added. “The Ukrainian side counts on destabilizing the situation in the Republic by this assassination.”
According to the currently available information, Arsen Pavlov was killed by an explosive device at the entrance of his apartment building. The circumstance of the assassination are being investigated, security is tightened in Donetsk.
On June 24 an assassination attempt against Pavlov failed: an explosive device went off on the territory of the Republic Trauma Center in Donetsk. Nobody was hurt back then, one of the buildings of the hospital and cars were damaged.
