Ukrainian tank brigade servicemen plan to revolt against their commanders as they are reluctant to keep on fighting in the so-called “anti-terrorist operation” in Donbass, Donetsk People’s Republic Deputy Defense Minister Eduard Basurin said.
“Sergeants of the independent 17th tank brigade are planning to launch a mutiny as they are unwilling to keep fighting in the punitive operation of the Ukrainian government. The servicemen are ready to turn arms against their commanders,” Basurin said, citing intelligence reports.
He also added that the mutiny is likely to be backed by the majority of brigade servicemen.
“The uproar is caused by a substantial delay and systematic retention of servicemen’s payment which they attribute to corruption in the command,” he stated.
This is not the first time Ukrainian servicemen plan such protests. DPR intelligence previously reported a similar development in Ukraine-controlled Artyomovsk. Ukrainian servicemen planned to blow up the brigade’s headquarters in retaliation to their co-servicemen dying due to “incompetent orders of the commanders”, who were attempting to conduct a breakthrough in Yasinovatoya area.
