Kiev city Chief Architect Sergey Tselovalnik has proposed to demolish the capital’s People’s Friendship Arch.

The media report that Tselovalnik has called the arch “useless” and said that sees no “artistic value in this construction“.

He has offered to create a Pantheon of Glory of the fighters for Ukraine’s independence instead, where the “remains of great people, starting from Vladimir the Great, will rest“.

The People’s Friendship Arch was opened in 1982 on the top of the bank of Dnepr river. It is dedicated to the reunification of Ukraine and Russia in 1654. During the Soviet times the inscription on the monument read: “In commemoration of the reunification of Ukraine and Russia“.
