DPR People's Militia returns fire in response to the Ukrainian army’s shelling

Servicemen of the People’s Militia of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) used weapons not prohibited by the Minsk agreements to return fire, targeting the Ukrainian army’s positions, Donetsk News Agency informed on June 24, citing a statement of deputy head of the DPR People’s Militia Eduard Basurin.

The fire was opened at the Ukrainian army’s positions from which Donetsk and Gorlovka were shelled. Basurin noted that the republic’s defenders were forced to return fire using weapons not prohibited by the Minsk agreements to “suppress enemy firing points” “in order to protect civilians.”

On the morning of June 23, Ukrainian military opened fire on the outskirts of Gorlovka suing mortars and grenade launchers, which resulted in damage to a house in Zaytsevo village. On the same evening, Ukrainian army shelled northern Donetsk using mortars, damaging a low-pressure gas pipeline, glazing and the facade of the Zasyadko mine cogeneration plant building.

On June 21, four servicemen of the DPR People’s Militia were killed during the shelling of a Donetsk suburb by the Ukrainian army, while five people were wounded. After that, the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushylin, announced his intention to implement “appropriate countermeasures,” stressing that the republic would not “let Ukraine get away with its low tricks.”
