Ukrainian MP: Ukraine slips in feudalism

08.07.2018, Kiev.

Kiev doesn’t control paramilitary groups in different Ukrainian regions, claimed Mustafa Nayyem, member of the Ukrainian parliament, Vzglyad reports on July 7.

According to the politician, such groups, being registered as utility companies in approximately 16 regions of the country, in fact engage in guarding real estate. The MP noted that the charter of these groups allow the staff to use force and to detain persons. They also wear the same uniform as the Ukrainian National Guard and the Ukrainian National Police.

«In fact, these groups are small armies formed by local councils in favor of regional lords», posted Nayyem on his page in Facebook.

The politician said that in the run-up to the presidential elections in Ukraine such forces would be used as “a weapon of local feudal lords and current administrations”.

Previously, there was a scandal relating to the growing independence of some businessmen in Ukraine. Two Ukrainian TV channels specializing in political subjects were allegedly bought by Viktor Medvedchuk. As a result, his political rivals disappeared from the air of the channels while his political allies started to appear there. It is supposed that the businessman prepares in a such way to the presidential election, which is planned to take place on March 31, 2019.
