A church in Kiev was set on fire, Dimitry Garchuk, the senior priest of the Kiev’s Church of the Jerusalem Icon of Mother of God of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchate (UOC MP), wrote on his Twitter page.

“Someone set the Church on fire. I thank the firefighters of the Goloseevsky district. God forgive the arsonists, for they know not what they do” the senior priest wrote on his page. He also provided pictures of the burned interior walls of the church.

Canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC MP) is functioning in Ukraine, which is a self-governed church within the Moscow Patriarchate, as well as church structures not recognized by global Orthodox Christianity: Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate (UOC KP) and Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC). UOC MP informed about multiple cases of priests being oppressed and Orthodox temples being seized by the representatives of the UOC KP.

The Department of Exterior Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate reported about 19 churches under the UOC MP being vandalized by radicals in 2017. Since the beginning of 2018, another 10 cases were reported.
