Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has many problems, but he holds firmly to power and will continue surrendering Serbia, political scientist, philosopher, and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan stated on September 21 on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio.
“Vucic will not relinquish power. He is an incredibly bright and talented person with colossal, astounding capacity for work, who has genuinely achieved something in terms of what he set as his goals,” stated the political scientist.
Kurginyan stressed that the center of power in Serbia will be around whatever post Vucic holds, whether it be the position of president or prime minister, it does not matter.
At the same time, the politician has many problems, the analyst acknowledged. Among the most significant, he named the numerous protests related to the collapse of part of the railway station in Novi Sad, as well as the need to balance between the interests of the European Union and Donald Trump.
Moreover, “as soon as he stops singing a certain song that my friends call ‘Vucic’s nationalist song,’ he will immediately lose everything,” added the political scientist.
At the same time, Vucic “of course, is pursuing a line of surrendering Serbia. This is completely clear to me – surrender, joining the European Union and everything else. There should be no illusions about this,” stressed Kurginyan.
“But he is pursuing a masterful line. Every time the Albanians and Kosovars once again pressure the Serbian population, he mobilizes the army and utters menacing words. The army does not move anywhere. And then another concession arises in the name of peace,” the political scientist noted.
Kurginyan named the head of the Center for the Study of the Contemporary Balkan Crisis at the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Elena Guskova, as the most outstanding and most objective specialist on Serbia and the Balkans, and quoted her statement, “The Moscow leg of the chair Vucic sits on is constantly getting shorter.”
The political scientist stressed that this is indeed happening. He called Vucic a man “who pursued the line of ‘multivectoral foreign policy,’ ‘benefiting from the political and economical ties with different major players’.”
“It must be said that this is, in fact, long-standing Serbian policy; this did not begin now,” stated Kurginyan.
