Kurginyan: Trump is not able to solve the problem of Ukraine

09.08.2025, Moscow.

US President Donald Trump cannot resolve the conflict in Ukraine in the way it could actually be resolved, because the entire system behind him will not allow it, said political scientist, philosopher, and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on August 8 on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.

Even before being elected president for a second term, Trump stated that he would quickly end the conflict in Ukraine. He continues to make promises now that he is capable of resolving this conflict. However, to end the confrontation, the US president would have to make an extremely disadvantageous decision for Ukraine, the political scientist noted.

To end the conflict, according to Sergey Kurginyan, Trump could say something like, “Ukraine has not fulfilled the fundamental conditions; it will fulfill them now. If it does not, so much the worse for them. What Vladimir needs, I will do. And that will be the end of it. I will hand this Ukraine over to the Russians — choke on it, whoever needs it, a bone in the throat of the Europeans, and keep fighting, if you want.”

However, the US president cannot make such concessions, stressed the political scientist. “Because no matter how eccentric, rowdy, or extravagant he may be, there is a system behind him, and if he pushes too hard against it, he will get such a blowback that he will hardly survive. And he understands this!” Kurginyan explained.

Therefore, Trump pretends that he acts independently, but in reality does not contradict the system — in part because he remembers the assassination attempt, which might be more successful next time, the political scientist explained. Thus, in Kurginyan’s opinion, Trump begins to play with the system, and the system starts to respond.

“How does it [the system] play with him? It guesses ‘what he’s thinking about.’ And then the famous Ursula [von der Leyen] and all those British figures and others — they’ve all taken advanced courses in political psychology and so on. Decision making. They see who they’re dealing with. They say: ‘Donald, you are even greater than you think. Let us tell you how great you are. You’re incredibly great. I’m thrilled by you as a man. I’m thrilled by you as a politician, as the emperor of the world, as the savior of humanity! You’re a figure of cosmic scale’…” explained the political scientist.

Trump is then persuaded that he can truly end this conflict very quickly. And then, the Europeans announce that as soon as peace is made, they will deploy a contingent of 50,000–70,000 troops, the analyst reminded.

Thus, there will be no gain for Russia in this.

“And then it turns out that what we fought for is being turned against us. After all, on the global scale, it was not just Russian-Ukrainian cards being played, but also global ones — to keep Ukraine out of NATO. And what difference does it make whether it joins NATO or there’s a NATO contingent stationed there? Or maybe not NATO itself, but troops from NATO countries?” Kurginyan explained.

He also added that without Kharkov and Odessa, it will be impossible to call Russia’s victory a “breakthrough.”

Thus, despite the futility of such negotiations, they will continue — because Moscow does not want to be “in the role of the only monster” and does not want to be blamed for bloodshed.

“And then all this back-and-forth starts: right-left, ‘let’s talk some more,’ ‘humanitarian mission,’ and so on. In bad theatrical performances, when the extras were supposed to murmur, everyone would say in unison: ‘What to say when there’s nothing to say, what to say when there’s nothing to say’… Our mass media now remind me of this ‘what to say when there’s nothing to say, what to say when there’s nothing to say.’ And that’s what everything is focused on,” Sergey Kurginyan explained.
