Malian and Russian forces return the bodies of Wagner members after a successful operation in Sahel

09.10.2024, Moscow.

The Russian and Malian forces have conducted a successful operation in Sahel, which resulted in the return of the bodies of Wagner Group soldiers killed in July during battles with Islamic militants, citing the head of the Commonwealth of Officers for International Security (COIS) Alexander Ivanov RIA Novosti reported on October 9.

According to him, the Armed Forces of Mali (FAM) and the Russian soldiers have successfully completed an operation against Islamic radicals in the Sahel region, where PMC Wagner soldiers were ambushed earlier in July 2024.

The operation took place on September 30, and according to its results it was possible to return the bodies of the dead to their homeland. The operation was a response to the attack that took place in July, when the Wagner group suffered casualties as a result of unequal combat.

The events leading up to the operation began in late July, when the Wagner group clashed with militants in the vicinity of Tin-Zoutine, one of the settlements in Mali.

The fighting continued for several days, and despite support from Malian troops, the 13th Assault Squadron faced serious attacks by the militants, who used heavy weapons, drones and shahid vehicles. Both sides suffered casualties as a result of these attacks, but the Wagner soldiers, together with the FAM, were able to repel several major enemy attacks.
