Authorities of Berlin acting immorally by banning Soviet symbols and Russian flag on the Victory Day, the Russian ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechayev said to journalists on May 6.

“Decision of Berlin authorities according to which display of Russian state flags, as well as symbols inseparably connected with the Victory Day and liberation of Germany and Europe from Nazism, on May 8 and 9, 2023 on main Soviet war memorials is prohibited for visitors is decisively unacceptable,” the ambassador stated.

According to him, such an approach is immoral. He added that the Russian embassy demands that the restrictions be lifted.

Earlier, the police of the German capital banned the use of flags of the USSR, Russia, St. George’s ribbon, historical uniforms, as well as symbols Z and V on May 8 and 9. Ukrainian flags were also subject to restrictions.

Later a Berlin court found the ban on Ukrainian flags illegal and overturned it. At the same time, the restriction on the use of Soviet and Russian symbols remained.
