Kurginyan explains why compromise between Good and Evil is possible in the West

The Protestant idea that God is not present in the physical world is the basis of modernity and Western society, philosopher, political scientist, and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergei Kurginyan stated on April 6 on the air of the Conversation with a Sage program on Radio Zvezda.

“The basis of modernity is that God is not present in the world. The transcendent, i.e. God, does not exist in the immanent, i.e. in the world; and therefore, one can treat the world as you please – without paying regards to anything,” Kurginyan said.

The philosopher reminded of the main stages of the West’s movement toward Protestantism.

“Everything actually began with the creation of Purgatory, which Orthodoxy does not have, as a zone of some kind of compromise between Good and Evil and anything else,” Kurginyan explained.

Then the West expanded this zone of compromise, which Orthodoxy rejected. The discussion about the descent of the Holy Spirit only from the Father or from the Father and the Son has a profound socio-cultural and modeling character, Kurginyan noted.

Then Protestantism has actually completely separated the transcendent and the immanent, the philosopher reminded. That is, God is “somewhere out there”, he exists outside of everything, and his providence is not understood.

“And here on the Earth, how do we guess God’s providence? By success,” Essence of Time’s leader described the Protestant worldview.
