The events of the last decade have shown the collapse of the neoliberal model of globalization, political director of the Hungarian Prime Minister wrote in an article published on Mandiner‘s website on January 7.

Orban specified that his theses were based on an unofficial speech by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

“The neoliberal model of globalization has run out of steam… The events of the 2010s, migration, Brexit, and Donald Trump’s victory showed that the neoliberal world order is no longer working as well as it used to, so it is increasingly losing its legitimacy,” he is convinced.

According to the advisor, the vulnerability of the neoliberal order was exposed by the pandemic of 2020, and the Ukrainian crisis, which showed the impossibility of maintaining contemporary Western-centricity as it turned out that the opponents of the West are stronger, put the final point.

“In response to the crisis of the world order – to at least partially preserve its dominance – the West, still led by the United States, is severing, weakening, or taking control of its ties at an increasing rate. In Western terminology, this is called disengagement,” Orban said, adding that the West is reviving international blocs similar to those of the Cold War.
