Humanity is rapidly moving toward the end of the Homo sapiens species, toward a literal technosymbiosis, the merging of humans and machines. This outcome is inevitable unless the technocrats’ plans are countered with a different paradigm, one that prioritizes human ascent, where science and technology serve humanity and act merely as instruments, political scientist, philosopher, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan stated on August 7 during the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio.
According to the political scientist, in the 21st century, humanity is facing an enormous challenge. The world needs an “anthropological breakthrough” that unites the highest religious ideals with those of secular humanism, a humanism that “worshipped human ascent just as religious humanism did.” And everyone is pinning their hopes on Russia, for it is the country that can still counter the enslavement of Man by the machine.
“‘All progresses are reactionary if the human is collapsing,’ wrote Andrey Voznesensky [Soviet and Russian poet and writer] whom I disliked. Not a stupid statement, is it? If such collapse takes place, it is an absolute capitulation to the machine. It is the transformation of man into a machine, with all the monstrous consequences that entails. And let them not prattle on about transhumanism! This is dehumanization – technological dehumanization. Let us be honest!” – says Kurginyan.
According to him, the struggle around the humanistic project is the true essence of the global conflict unfolding before our eyes. It is a matter of whether History and Humanism have a future – those constant values that only Russia continues to uphold.
This process, Kurginyan says, can be steered toward human ascent by harnessing the potential of science, or toward subjugation and fusion with technology – literally a symbiosis, an anthropomorphic robot. “Compared to that, Hitler is nothing.”
“We cannot just replicate the idiotic technocratic, ‘techno-humanist’ initiatives of that… Silicon Valley. If Russia does not respond to this in its own way, it will crush Russia; for Silicon Valley has realized that one cannot implement major project without a specific kind of religion, and that everything must be cultivated within this [worship of the machine]. It has created a monstrous cocktail to which all major churches will be subordinated over the next twenty years, effectively pushing them to the sidelines,” the political scientist says.
He recalled the great ideas of human ascent described in the works of Russian thinkers such as: Nikolai Fyodorov, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, Vladimir Vernadsky, and others. Kurginyan emphasized an important point: it is crucial “to distinguish the Russian dream from this ‘techno-‘ or ‘trans-‘ so-called humanism, and to declare that transhumanism is, in fact, dehumanization.”
“If the salvation is based on human ascent, then we can unite all the Russian dreams from Fyodorov to Tsiolkovsky and beyond, including Teilhard de Chardin and, ultimately, Vernadsky with his theory of the noosphere, the sphere of human thought, with the values that will remain paramount for billions of believers,” the analyst commented.
He also recalled that in the early USSR, the question of human ascent and the development of superhuman abilities was a task of the highest order; likewise, issues concerning immortality and the transformation of matter stood at the forefront of Soviet science, which served the ideal of ascension. “And we were on that path, we were moving forward… Lunacharsky and the Bolsheviks… Lenin once said to Gorky: ‘If not for this, then why did we do it all?'”
“In other words, the crucial point is that if Russia fails to answer the question of what becomes of Man, it will be over for it… To copy these [technocrat] mainstream trends and chase after Western civilization is tantamount to suicide. And to say that Russia will just guard ‘traditional values’, that it is no longer interested in anything else, that Russia will not participate in technological race, that, too, is suicide,” declared the leader of the Essence of Time movement.
