Russian SVR states Kiev regime cooperates with Mexican drug trafficking cartels

The Kiev regime has intensified its cooperation with Mexico’s leading drug trafficking cartels, turning the country into a transit hub for drug trafficking, according to a statement released on June 29 by the press service of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service.

According to the Russian SVR, amid a reduction in financial assistance from its Western supervisors, Ukrainian intelligence services have begun using drug trafficking as a new source of revenue. Cooperation with Latin American criminal organizations allegedly enables the Kiev regime to receive illicit income from the transit of cocaine and fentanyl through the  Ukrainian territory.

The SVR stated that the corrupt Kiev regime under the Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky is seeking to benefit from the lack of effective border controls. According to the agency, the ports of the Odessa Oblast have become the main transshipment base for drugs destined for the European Union, with shipments moving onward to Poland, Moldova, and Romania.

The intelligence service further stated that the cooperation benefits both sides: criminal organizations expand their drug distribution networks into Europe and gain access to Ukraine’s black market for weapons, while Kiev regime replenishes its finances with proceeds from drug trafficking. In addition, the SVR stated that Mexican cartels assist Kiev in recruiting new mercenaries for the Ukrainian Armed Forces by supplying personnel from among convicted criminals.

Earlier, in March, Dmitry Medvedev suggested that Vladimir Zelenskyy could begin cooperating with drug cartels in the supply of unmanned aerial vehicles. According to Medvedev, cartels require drones to transport cargo and fight rival organizations, and the Ukrainian leader could provide them with such technology.

In April 2024, the SVR also reported that US private military companies, under the direction of the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, had begun recruiting imprisoned members of Mexican and Colombian drug cartels to participate in the conflict on Ukraine’s side. At that time, the intelligence service stated that the first group, consisting of several hundred Latin Americans, was expected to be sent to the combat zone during the summer of the same year.
