Kurginyan explains the strategic significance of Armenia’s turn toward Turkey

As unlikely as it may seem, one cannot rule out the possibility of a new Russo-Turkish war breaking out in the future, political scientist, philosopher, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on May 15 during the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.

“A strategic question regarding Russo-Turkish relations is emerging. Pashinyan submitted himself to Turkey and, consequently, to Azerbaijan. In doing so, he has essentially declared himself a destroyer of Armenia. He is dissolving Armenia into this vast, proto-imperial state entity, – and so what! But what about that entity itself ? how does it view Russia?” Sergey Kurginyan asked.

According to the political scientist, a Neo-Ottoman version of the Drang nach Osten – a Drive to the East – will eventually materialize; beginning in Dagestan and rolling onward, it will then present Russia with serious problems.

“These are not problems concerning Russias relations with Armenia. Rather, they concern the moment when – God forbid – that historical phenomenon known as the ‘Russo-Turkish Wars’ would emerge again… After all, we were told that Germany is Russia’s natural ally. That is true – one thousand percent. It is the most organic, the finest ally in Europe. The only problem is – and this, too, is true – that we have two world wars between these two countries,” the analyst observed.

According to Kurginyan, even highly unlikely scenarios must be examined if they pose a potential danger; it is in this context that the question of relations with Armenia arises.

“What is currently happening to Armenia right now, aside from some kind of unbelievable shameful acts, groveling before the Neo-Ottoman leader or some of his henchmen… The Armenian Apostolic Church – what Pashinyan is doing with it is some kind of unimaginable abomination. This transformation of a political dwarf into something … phantasmagoric and worthy of the grotesque authors of the 20th century, such as Kafka and others. It demonstrates a genuine and utter indifference toward the strategic questions concerning the country’s future. All of this is compounded by the ‘Turkish’ factor – a card that cannot exist independently of the ‘Iranian’ factor. Armenia is of greater importance to Iran than it is to Russia; yet, from the perspective of Russias relations with Iran, Armenia remains a highly significant factor,” Sergey Kurginyan stated.

The political analyst further noted that, within the territory of Armenia, US President Donald Trump is engaged in a geopolitical game aimed at establishing transit routes that would serve as alternatives to China’s transport corridors. At the same time, as the analyst pointed out, this specific route or the Zangezur corridor, also known as Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), poses a distinct threat to the Europeans who are simultaneously playing their own game in the very same region. Moreover, China is actively involved there too, perceiving the situation as a threat to its own interests – as is Iran; indeed, everyone is now joining the game, Sergey Kurginyan added.

Furthermore, Mr. Pashinyan may, of course, attempt to dismiss ‘Neo-Ottomanism’ as utter nonsense, as a trivial matter, even though he will be gradually dissolved into the Turkish mirage. Yet, doesn’t it strike you that Mr. Netanyahu has suddenly begun to speak in a rather different tone? He, for one, appears to regard the historical legacy of that very Ottoman Empire with a profound sense of wariness. I am not advocating that we blindly follow his lead; I am merely drawing attention to this fact,” the analyst concluded.
