Contemporary terror addresses the most destructive aspect of Man awakening the will to death, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said on May 29 on the Conversation with a Sage program on Radio Zvezda.
The political scientist noted that historically terror targeted major individuals (e.g. the murder of Caesar by Brutus). However, the destruction of supermarkets etc. is a new essence of terror.
“It was initiated by a very religious and ascetic women Ulrike Meinhof and groups saying, let the Western community suffer the same things that are suffered in Vietnam,” the leader of Essence of Time explained.
Then, Sergey Kurginyan stressed, it transformed into a post-modernist show-terror, which cannot exist without TV, instigating in Man something special, and “all this leads to a culture of death.”
“The civilization of post-Modernity is exactly the civilization of death. This is a culture of death. This is a triumph of death,” the leader of Essence of Time said, and he added that, in terms of Sigmund Freud, this is a victory of Thanatos against Eros.
Sergey Kurginyan posed questions: what accounts for the culture of death and what accounts for the delight around terrorist actions?
“Firstly, if you kill you are true. Only death is true. Everything else, e.g. TV, Internet etc, is bla-bla-bla. And this is were momento de veridad (the moment of truth – Rossa Primavera News Agency) comes,” he explained the logic of terrorists and those who admire them.
The political scientist noted that this kind of “truthfulness” was most popular among Spanish Falangists, who were “tougher” than regular Nazis. They used a special slogan “Viva la muerte!” meaning “Long live death!” At the same time, Kurginyan stressed that prominent Spanish philosopher Miguel de Unamuno, whom Falangists loved, began to argue with them. He said that death could not live, and then Falangists put the philosopher under house arrest.
“However, this cult of death begins to spread all over the world. It cannot be Christian, it cannot be Olympic. It addresses really old things and the most destructive aspect of Man,” the leader of Essence of Time stressed.
