Armenia described as a “real” Armenia is a dead Armenia, political scientist, philosopher, and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan stated on May 15 during the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.
“Mr. Pashinyan says that he faithfully serves Mr. Erdogan, but his [Pashinyan’s] … ‘real’ … Armenia is anti-historical… Then, Mr. Erdogan prescribes his own historicity upon Armenia, and Armenia automatically transforms into a wilaya of the Turkish Ottoman Empire,” the political scientist said.
The philosopher recalled that Kemal Atatürk (a Turkish statesman, politician, and military figure; the founder and first president of the Turkish Republic – Rossa Primavera News Agency’s note] contrasted a real Turkey with a historical Turkey by defining Turkey as a European nation-state while rejecting the Ottoman Empire.
According to the leader of the Essence of Time movement, Atatürk’s primary historical achievement was winning the struggle for the very existence of Turkey itself. Without labeling historical Turkey as bad and modern Turkey as good, the founder of the Republic of Turkey urged his soldiers not to win, but to die. The soldiers went into battle guided by this principle and emerged victorious.
According to Kurginyan, by shifting from Kemalism toward Neo-Ottomanism that is, toward a profound historical continuity, Erdogan is asserting Turkey historicity. Turkish President Erdogan, in asserting his country’s historicity, is firmly opposing to his “lapdog” Pashinyan, who rejects his country’s history.
“Look, at first, one happily ‘eats on dolma’ and enjoys his life; only later to get massacred. When one is being massacred one is crying; when one is eating, one is happy,” the philosopher remarked, characterizing Pashinyan’s behavior.
Kurginyan noted that the issue here is not Pashinyan himself. The issue is that the “disgraceful” archetype he has created – the one who spits on everything that once mattered to the country – is somehow supported by a segment of the Armenian people. And this segment, in asserting that Armenia is “real” and that they, Pashinyan’s supporters, are real, is effectively admitting that they no longer exist.
The leader of the Essence of Time movement recalled a well-known joke. It goes like this: “A dwarf son brings his fiancée home to his dwarf parents and says, ‘Look, I’ve found myself such a wonderful fiancée!’ ‘Yes, son, that’s all well and good,’ the parents reply, ‘but look here: you are shorter than we are, aren’t you? And your fiancée – she is even shorter than you. Which means your children will be even shorter than you.’ – ‘So what, Mom and Dad?’ – the son asks. ‘Well, son,’ they answer, ‘at this rate, we’ll end up shrinking down to the size of mice!'”
The philosopher pointed out that the behavior of this “real” Armenia holds, strictly speaking, little significance for Russia – one could simply choose not to discuss it at all – were it not for the existence of Iran. For Armenia, in its current “real” incarnation, has effectively reduced itself to this state.
“This isn’t a joke; it’s the truth. It’s the truth about the current situation. As soon as one talks about the “real” Armenia, one says that Armenia is dead!“ the political analyst added.
