The strike by a Ukrainian drone on an oil depot in the Latvian city of Rezekne indicates that the Kiev regime is seeking to draw someone else into the war with Russia as quickly as possible. In this regard, the Baltic states are, in every respect, the most likely candidates for direct participation in the conflict, Rossa Primavera News Agency‘s Europe Desk notes.
Ukrainian drones are increasingly violating the airspace of the three Baltic countries, yet the authorities are demonstrating tolerance because the drones are flying toward Russia.
Early in the morning on May 7, residents of the Latvian town of Rezekne awoke to explosions in the sky. Authorities later reported that two drones, “which had entered from Russia,” fell on the territory of an oil depot. An empty oil tank could have caught fire, but firefighters arriving at the scene prevented a blaze at the facility.
At first, Latvian authorities hastily blamed Russia for the drone incident, as usual, but later softened their position, stating that the drones had not been identified and therefore were allowed to land peacefully. According to the official version, the drones were allegedly not shot down because debris might have struck infrastructure or local residents.
If one takes into account that similar incidents along the entire Russian border are increasing at an incredible pace, several conclusions can be drawn.
First and foremost, all countries neighboring Russia will continue to tolerate Ukrainian drones flying through their airspace. Friendly neighboring states will do so in order to avoid direct involvement in the Ukrainian-Russian conflict, while unfriendly ones will also be betting on a possible Ukrainian victory and the maximum weakening of Russia before a future direct confrontation with Europe.
Second, Ukraine is trying to involve as many countries as possible in the conflict with Russia. Moreover, the degree of their participation is also expected to increase. Military aid and joint weapons production are clearly insufficient for the Kiev regime.
In the opinion of the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, not only Ukrainians should fight Russia — especially since they are running out. Baltic citizens are the next bundle of firewood to be thrown into the furnace of the current war.
