Progress towards the development and rise of Man is the only thing that can compensate for his negative sides and thus save the world from catastrophe, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, philosopher and political scientist Sergey Kurginyan said on February 7 on the Right to Know program on TVC.
“I believe that, in any event, the key idea that can save the world is the idea of the absolute importance of human development,” the philosopher said. He also quoted Andrey Voznesensky’s poem Oza, “All kinds of progress are reactionary if Man is ruined” illustrating that a technical progress will result in a catastrophe if Man stops developing.
Sergey Kurginyan indicated that the major documents of our time leave the issue of Man out of the agenda, be it Donald Trump’s program about priorities for the future or declarations adopted at the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan. “The point is that Man is not there. He is completely out of discussion,” he explained.
The political scientist reminded an example of how the issue of Man was avoided when Mikhail Sholokhov in his speech at a congress did not discuss Man, but he only discussed the problem of fish in the Don river, after which a joke appeared that “man is a fish to man” (similar to “man is a wolf to man” and “man is a friend, comrade, and brother to man”).
“So, now man is a crypto-currency to man? Man is a digit to man? What is man to man now?” the leader of Essence of Time asked.
He stressed that man is “the most terrible beast on the planet” because he is the only one who kills not for food and who improves his weapons.
“The saber-toothed tiger was a very strong predator with a weak brain. But it did not improve its fangs. But here we have nuclear, laser etc. fangs. The only thing that can prevent this beast from destroying the planet is development, rise. A progress towards the God or a new Man, i.e. ascension of Man that would compensate for his negative sides with this positive rise. This is when humanism is not cancelled, but it becomes most acute,” Kurginyan concluded.
