The US cannot morally corrupt the whole world because there will always be someone who will refuse to become corrupt, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said on January 23 on the Conversation with a Sage program on Radio Zvezda.
According to the political scientist, US President Donald Trump is reminiscent of a late-Roman emperor with his “blatant, disgusting self-glorification and hooliganism” and his confidence that the world will “buy” this. According to him, in fact Trump is only concerned with the Congress primaries and his hedonism, and he does not care for anything else.
“‘No one knows what he will do the next moment. He does not know himself what he will do the next moment,’ a hero of Brecht’s Fear and Misery of the Third Reich says about Hitler,” Sergey Kurginyan reminded explaining the difficulties of predicting Trump’s behavior.
At the same time, the US wins due to the ideology it promotes globally, i.e. the ideology of the golden calf and the idea of “having a decent standard of living as everyone else has.”
Sergey Kurginyan explained that when everyone “wants to have a decent standard of living” then the US will win. He added that “this is fair to certain extent” because if the US totally corrupts everyone’s morals turning them into pigs as Circe did with Odysseus’ friends then the US will win.
“But they cannot turn everyone into pigs. By the way, in this myth about Homer’s Odysseus there was also Odysseus’ comrade-in-arms named Eurylochus who rejected Circe… There is always someone like Eurylochus. And only a Eurylochus will win. He can be North Korean or Islamic, it does not matter. The one who says he does not need a decent standard of living will be the winner,” the leader of Essence of Time noted.
He quoted verses from Joseph Brodsky’s poem “The Procession”:
“Some need peace and quiet,
Others need a war,
And rattle of hoofs, and rattle of life
And camping fires,
Some want to hear ground hitting coffin,
And others the clarinet of dawn.”
Sergey Kurginyan stressed that there will always be someone who will refuse to live a degenerate philistine life and who will prefer to die rather than have a “decent standard of living” like that. And, according to him, even if a majority prefers the “decent standard of living,” only those choosing the other path will make a difference in the Great Game.
“It does not matter to what extent they are criminal or destructive. They are in a sort of a dialogue with history, while all the others are a waste, unfortunately. And there is a huge amount of it. But despite its huge amount it is a waste. It is worthless. Sheep exist to be eaten by wolves. It is enough to bleat once to be eaten,” the political scientist explained.
Addressing the Russian politicians involved in the negotiations with the United States he warned, “What you must not do is bleat. It is not even because it is a shame. Everything could be tolerated. But it is also because as soon as they hear you bleating you become food. And then you can only be eaten. This is how it works. Please, open your eyes to see this.”
