It is good that the new US National Security Strategy stipulates that Russia is no longer an enemy, but Russia must remember that there are other documents that postulate otherwise, political scientist, philosopher, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on December 12 on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.
According to Kurginyan, if the new US National Security Strategy states that Russia is “no longer an enemy,” then this is good for Russia, since it weakens support for the hostile regime in Ukraine, which means it will be easier for Russia to achieve its goals.
“Whether support will be weakened is a separate issue. But it declaratively states that this should be the case, it says that Russia and the USA are not enemies, and so on. So, why shouldn’t Russia take a positive view of this?” the analyst asked.
However, Kurginyan emphasized that such documents cannot be read solely on the principle “what is written there about Russia?” because that is far from sufficient – one must read what is written in the document as a whole.
“And [the new US National Security Strategy] retains what I’ve been saying for many years, something that somehow never gets the attention of those who deal with such issues. Every doctrine always contains the same point. I will now quote it fairly close to the text: ‘It is unacceptable for any power to rise to a level from which it can challenge the US dominance,‘” the political scientist said.
According to him, the strategic constant, that can be seen in all documents regulating the real US actions, requires that those who are yet below the US and already capable of challenging it, be suppressed.
“Everyone else belongs at the bottom. And the US defines where that bottom is. And that’s the main point of the document,” Kurginyan emphasized.
On December 5, an updated version of the National Security Strategy was published on the White House website. The document places a strong emphasis on the Western Hemisphere and the rivalry with China in Asia.
Compared to previous versions, the Strategy has removed the clause about Russia’s alleged threat to peace. The tone of the new National Security Strategy toward Russia is more constructive than in the previous version in 2017.
