Kurginyan: Some MAGA representatives believe Trump has betrayed them

15.10.2025, Moscow.

The most radical wing of the MAGA (“Make America Great Again”) movement believes that US President Donald Trump has already betrayed them, philosopher, political scientist, and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on September 20 during the TV program Right to Know on the TVC channel.

Trump came to power thanks to a broad conservative coalition. Its most zealous part embodied by the radical part of the MAGA movement strongly opposes to US involvement in the Ukrainian, Palestinian-Israeli, Iranian-Israeli, and other conflicts. This faction, Kurginyan noted, already considers Trump a traitor.

Kurginyan drew attention to the fact that Trump is a very unusual conservative politician. Among his close associates are several openly gay individuals, even though Trump is regarded as a defender of traditional values. Behind Trump also stand libertarian tech moguls from Silicon Valley — advocates of “enhancing” humanity through cybernetic technologies. Some of his supporters even desire to reshape the world order through a global catastrophe.

According to Kurginyan, it still remains unclear whether Trump is a genuine representative of the conservative camp or merely using it for political purposes.

“And here arises the most important question,” he said. “Is Trump a perverted form or just an eccentric on the conservative field? Does he truly believe in conservatism, or has he been tasked with gathering it and then surrendering it?” Kurginyan asked.

The analyst stressed that disillusionment with Trump’s policies has been growing among MAGA supporters.

“MAGA already believes he has sold them out. The most radical, ecstatic segment of conservatives who stood behind him, they believe he has betrayed them,” Kurginyan said.

The political scientist also highlighted the complexity of the current political situation, emphasizing that understanding it requires moving beyond cold rationality and simplistic interpretations.

“Perhaps we shouldn’t make everything overly complicated. But something here is clearly complex. And this complexity — with all its irrationality, its insanity, and so on — also needs to be monitored, understood, seen, and navigated. After all, Stalin too believed Hitler was a pragmatic politician. He asked, ‘Why would he attack the USSR?’ But Hitler was not pragmatic, he was something else. We are now at a similar crossroads. And that, I think, is more dangerous than any conflict,” concluded Essence of Time‘s leader.
