In modern science, scientific disciplines are rapidly fragmenting, and this process will cause the collapse of everything unless a movement that integrates them is created, philosopher, political scientist, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan writes in his article Responsibility published in the Zavtra newspaper on August 21.
The political scientist recalled that during one of his trips to Israel, “Mr. Reichman, the founder of a very interesting educational institution, the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya (IDC), wanted to meet with him.”
Kurginyan noted that he appreciated everything about the meeting: “the buildings of this Interdisciplinary Center, the enormous park, the enthusiastic students, and Mr. Reichman’s absolute modesty, an emphatic modesty in everything, combined with intelligence and kindness.”
The philosopher recounted that Reichman listened attentively to everything he said about the need to develop interdisciplinary research. Commenting on this speech, the founder of the IDC Herzliya noted that Kurginyan’s concept is not an issue of education in the traditional sense, but rather the training methodology that medieval masters practiced with their apprentices.
“And secondly, what you propose can only be implemented by Russians. They have a special affinity for interdisciplinarity. You are proposing an approach that brings together more than ten disciplines. I assure you, no one but Russians can do this,” Reichman added.
Kurginyan inquired about the specific work of Reichman’s IDC Herzliya. Reichman sadly replied that they combine research in politics and economics with a small dose of jurisprudence. “But nothing more,” the center’s founder emphasized.
“Then it was time to say goodbye, and Reichman wanted to walk me to the gate.” “He waved at me as I got into the car, looking sadly after me,” the philosopher noted.
Kurginyan emphasized that in the modern world, the common ground is disintegrating even in the natural sciences.
Today, even the common ground in natural science is crumbling.
“New disciplines are springing up. The differentiation of disciplines is rapidly increasing. First, physics and chemistry, then chemical physics and physical chemistry, and then any combination of these physical, chemical, biological, and other disciplines,” the philosopher said.
The philosopher emphasized the need to create a new intellectual movement “that will integrate disciplines.” If this is not done, the differentiation of scientific disciplines alone could destroy everything.
“And here, neither systems analysis, nor Bogdanov’s tektology, nor synergy, nor chaos theory are sufficient for this. We need to move forward quickly,” Kurginyan emphasized.
