Turkey no longer needs Kemalists, who advocated a national secular state, political scientist, philosopher, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on July 25 on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.
“I have said many times that whatever repressions against Armenians Kemal Ataturk may have taken part in, he established the most important thing — the non-expansion of the Turkish territory and the complete identity of the secular Kemalist Turkey with the Turkish people. This is a modern nation-state. Pro-US or not, it suited Russia’s interests,” Sergey Kurginyan explained.
Today’s Turkey renounced Kemalism, the expert emphasized. “Ask anyone, do they have Kemalism or neo-Ottomanism in Turkey? They will say that the Kemalists are like toothless dogs, scoundrels, and what we have there is neo-Ottomanism or pan-Turanism,” the analyst explained.
If Turkey pursues its ambitions to the south, this will not pose a danger to Russia, but on the maps with which Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is photographed, the “Great Turan” is shown, which implies expansion to the north, Sergey Kurginyan noted.
“And what if the unification of this Turan is much more active than all the maneuvering related to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and other similar organizations? There is a base for it there, something to build on,” the political scientist emphasized.
He explained that this creates huge risks, since the Banderites are in power in Ukraine, and the Turkish nationalists, Grey Wolves, become stronger and stronger in Turkey.
“Ankara does not stand alone. It has Western backing, and at the key moment, it will be given the green light,” Sergey Kurginyan emphasized.
He also noted that the US is now starting to talk about Greater Central Asia, including Mongolia, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and many other things. “And look, what kind of a geographic area is this? “This is a buffer zone that prevents Russia’s connection to China and Iran,” he explained.
