Being a NATO member state prevents Turkey from waging war against Russia, because Turkey cannot fight us on its own, apart from NATO, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said on July 25 on the program Conversation with a Sage on radio Zvezda.
“A good thing about NATO is that as long as it has its Article 5 Turkey cannot wage war on us on its own. It can only do so within NATO in which it is a member state. And in this sense, in my point of view, this is the only positive option, i.e. NATO is a sort of an obstacle to all these countries that would like to wage war against us,” Sergey Kurginyan explained.
He stressed that Ukraine is not a NATO member state, and this is why it wages the war. This poses no formal obligations for any NATO member state.
“Ukraine is not part of NATO, and it wages the war, but the Baltic States became part of NATO, so they will proceed differently. When Europe starts, and when NATO starts, then the Baltic States will start, but not before,” the political scientist noted.
If US President Donald Trump applies a destructive action to NATO leaving Turkey outside NATO and leaving Europe alone, the situation will worsen for Russia, Sergey Kurginyan explained.
“The question is always not only whom we want to love and where we want to integrate, but the question is who loves us and who is ready to accept us where we want to integrate. These are the key questions. Indeed, we cannot reiterate our blind confidence. It looks too unconvincing,” the analyst addressed the audience.
He stressed that when it is discussed that we need to be friends with Turkey or even Azerbaijan, we must first think about whether they want to be friends with us or not.
“We cannot be satisfied with some personal communications, family ties, some contacts, some experience of diplomatic work, and economic interests in the form of some nuclear power plants or oil and gas sales… All that is necessary but not sufficient, because people’s lives are not only that! They include something else,” Sergey Kurginyan explained.
