Russia will not survive if it continues the strategy of integrating into the West and destroying its conceptual and strategic foundations, philosopher, political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on May 30 on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.
The project Modernity, and the entire European way of life based on the rule of law, are already doomed. Attempts of Global East and Global South to continue development are no longer about democracy, but about authoritarian modernization – a catch-up modernization, but even that “is already in the past, because this world order is doomed,” the political scientist explained.
“The storm is approaching. The entire second half of the 21st century will witness more military conflicts than the 20th century did. The Ukrainian tragedy is the first harbinger of something greater,” the philosopher added.
At the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, it seemed that things could turn out much worse. It seemed that the desire to integrate into the West and become its appendage had already led to the fact that “everything was destroyed, all this reduced-strength (cadre) units, the ability to even carry out mobilization, the autonomy of our science, technology, machine tool industry,” explained Sergey Kurginyan.
However, in reality, everything turned out not to be so bad and it became clear that Russia has managed to respond somehow. “Thanks to this, we are here talking, and not the Banderites. And the Banderites did not get to Smolensk, or anywhere else in Russia. The Russian Armed Forces are gradually eliminating them. But this is only the beginning of something bigger,” the political scientist noted.
In order to withstand and survive in the 21st century, Russia must reject the “integration” project and the corresponding pro-Western rhetoric, in which all conceptual and strategic foundations are denied and destroyed, the political scientist believes.
“Because, if one follows the leader, why would one need these foundations? Figuratively speaking, let the giraffe think, giraffe has a big head. Or a camel, or whoever – the elephant in Washington. Let them think, and worry about where humanity is heading. Russian elites are just following them – and that’s it, Russia is integrating into the global trends and looking for its place within them,” the political scientist said.
According to Kurginyan, the Russian elites maintain the inertia of thinking and consumer behavior which were formed over the last forty years, and with every “kind word from Trump,” revives ecstatic hopes about Russia’s merger with the West and looking for opportunities for cooperation.
“Russia continues to live with a population that is very far from the state of patriotic mobilization, like in 1941, something that cannot be accomplished automatically. It is not as bad as it could have been. It turned out to have preserved some deep, hidden internal principles of Russian existence, which continued from Kievan Rus’ through the Moscow Tsardom and the Petersburg empire to the Soviet Union. This has been preserved, and there is still some hope,” the leader of the Essence of Time movement explained.
