The Russian Armed Forces began deploying a laser air defense system to combat Ukrainian drones in the zone of Russia’s special military operation, reports Telegram channel Mash on June 30.
The laser system is capable of burning out enemy drone cameras, preventing them from approaching their targets. This system can destroy small enemy strike drones at a distance of two to three kilometers, and reconnaissance UAVs at a distance of up to six kilometers.
According to military expert Yuri Knutov, the 35-kilowatt laser air defense system surpasses the American C-UAS DE system, which has a 26-kilowatt emitter. He also explained that although deploying a laser complex is costly, its operational expenses are lower than those of missile-based systems.
On the night of July 1, Russian air defense systems destroyed 15 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones — 10 of which were shot down in Kursk Region and five over the Sea of Azov.
