The Russian Armed Forces destroyed Western military equipment worth no less than two billion dollars during Russia’s special military operation using the fiber-optic FPV drone Knyaz Vandal Novgorodsky, said Aleksey Chadayev, Director General of the Ushkuy Research and Production Center, as quoted by TASS on June 21.
“Since August 2024, the value of NATO equipment destroyed [in the zone of Russia’s special military operation] using the Knyaz Vandal has already exceeded $2 billion,” Chadayev was quoted as saying.
The Knyaz Vandal Novgorodsky drone was first deployed during Russia’s special military operation in the summer of last year. As Chadayev previously said, by the beginning of this year around 100 units trained to operate this drone had been prepared for service.
Its main distinction from FPV drones controlled via radio channels lies in its onboard spool of fiber-optic cable. During flight, the cable gradually unspools, transmitting the control signal via the cable, thereby protecting the drone from electronic warfare systems.
