Chinese Foreign Ministry: The situation in the Middle East is sliding into abyss

China will not stand idly by and watch as the situation in the Middle East slides into the abyss, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during a telephone conversation with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi on June 18.

According to Wang Yi, “Israel’s actions violate international law and norms of international relations, infringe on Iran’s sovereignty and security, and undermine regional peace and stability.” He also noted that Israel’s actions have disrupted the peace process and Oman’s efforts in this direction.

The PRC believes that “the most important thing is to achieve a ceasefire and end the war; the sooner a ceasefire is achieved, the less damage there will be.” The Chinese Foreign Minister stressed that “we cannot stand idly by and watch the situation in the region slide into an unknown abyss.

He also expressed confidence that “Arab and Islamic countries will unite and continue their efforts to promote peace and advance negotiations,” noting that China will continue to play a constructive role in this matter.

Israel launched an attack against Iran on June 13, two days before the next round of talks on Iran’s nuclear program between the US and Iran in Oman. The Omani authorities helped the parties organize five rounds of talks, which the Iranian authorities called progressive.
