Chairman of the DPRK Kim Jong-un pledged to continue supporting Russia’s foreign policy, including on the issue of the conflict in Ukraine, during a meeting in Pyongyang on June 5 with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
The agency described the atmosphere of the meeting as “friendly and trusting.” The event focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries under a signed treaty on comprehensive strategic cooperation, as well as mutual collaboration in various fields.
Shoigu expressed gratitude to the Korean military, who, alongside the Russian army, helped liberate the Kursk region and “defended a valuable part of Russian territory as if it were their own homeland.”
Kim Jong-un expressed his confidence that Russia will continue to achieve victory in defending its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security interests.
Shoigu’s previous visit to Pyongyang took place on March 21. During that trip, he discussed with the Korean leader the dialogue Moscow is conducting with Washington, as well as the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
