Russia was the largest foreign investor in Iran in 2024, Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali stated on June 5, according to the press service of the Iranian Embassy.
He noted that Russia was also the largest foreign investor in Iran during the 2022–2023 fiscal year. It invested $2.76 billion in the economy of the Islamic Republic. During that period, the total volume of foreign direct investment amounted to $4.2 billion.
Jalali emphasized that the volume of Russian investments in gas projects in Iran is expected to reach $8 billion in the future. Specific commitments in this direction have already been made for a total of $5 billion. The remaining agreements are expected to be concluded in the near future.
In January, Russia and Iran signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement. Additionally, Moscow and Tehran agreed on the route of a gas pipeline from Russia through Azerbaijan to Iran. The projected gas supply volume for this pipeline is 55 billion cubic meters.
