Europe is pursuing a policy of escalating the conflict in the Baltic Sea, Russian Presidential Aide Nikolay Patrushev said at a meeting on the development of the fishing industry in the Kaliningrad region on May 28.
“In addition to the ongoing sanctions pressure on Russia, Western countries are creating military tension in the Baltic Sea, including through provocative actions. In these circumstances, we are forced to take and are already taking countermeasures,” Nikolay Patrushev said.
In addition, Europe is opposing Russian fishing in the Baltic: “The authorities of German and Dutch ports are refusing to serve Russian ships in their ports under far-fetched pretexts. The ports of the Faroe Islands are closed to us.”
On May 14, the Estonian Navy attempted to detain the Gabonese-flagged tanker Jaguar, which was sailing from India to Russia, as it passed through the Gulf of Finland. A Su-35 fighter jet came to the tanker’s rescue and managed to thwart the actions of the Estonian military sailors.
