The decision to lift range restrictions on weapons supplied to the Kiev regime was made several months ago, stated German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on May 27 in Helsinki during a press briefing.
“The countries that had imposed range limitations abandoned these conditions long ago,” he said, adding that, to the best of his knowledge, this occurred “several months ago.” Merz emphasized that the Kiev regime has the right to use the received weapons “against military targets on the territory of Russia.”
Following Merz’s remarks about the removal of range restrictions on arms supplied by Washington, London, Paris, and Berlin, German Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil contradicted him, stating that Berlin’s position on the matter had not changed.
In response, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that such actions by Western countries undermine the ongoing negotiation process and threaten to further escalate tensions, contributing to the deepening of the Ukrainian crisis. Peskov noted that Russia reserves the right to respond accordingly to such measures.
