A famous statement about Russia by Otto von Bismarck, the first chancellor of the German Empire, as a historical lesson for Ukraine was cited by Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky in an interview with journalist Yevgeny Popov on the air of the 60 Minutes program on May 16.
Medinsky noted that Bismarck served as ambassador to Russia for a long time. He knew the Russian language and Russia and warned that Russians should never be deceived or have something stolen from them. Sooner or later they will come for what is theirs. This view of Bismarck is an important history lesson, especially in the current circumstances.
“This ‘Russians always come for their own’, it seems to me, is a very important history lesson,” the presidential aide emphasized.
Vladimir Putin offered Ukraine to hold talks in Istanbul without any preconditions. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed readiness to organize such talks. Initially, they were supposed to take place on May 15, but then they were postponed for one day.
The Russian side at the talks is represented by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, Chief of the Main Directorate of the Armed Forces General Staff Igor Kostyukov and Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin. The delegation also includes experts from the Defense Ministry, the General Staff, the Foreign Ministry and the presidential administration.
