President of Burkina Faso Ibrahim Traoré requested assistance from Russia in developing his country’s defense industry, RIA Novosti reported on May 11.
Traoré explained that the military industry is crucial for Burkina Faso in its fight against terrorism.

This is the most important thing for us,” said the leader of the state.
On May 10, 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with Traoré at the Kremlin. Putin recalled that 30,000 citizens of Burkina Faso had fought as part of the anti-Hitler coalition.
In turn, Traoré shared his impressions from the visit to Russia and thanked Putin for the invitation to the parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. He emphasized that he had learned much about Russian history and the sacrifices the country made in the war against fascism.
