Iran categorically rejects the US demand to abandon its peaceful nuclear program as a precondition for further negotiations on the nuclear deal, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated to reporters on May 11.
“Iran is not pursuing the creation of nuclear weapons. They told us they want to make sure we don’t seek nuclear arms — we were fully prepared for that,” Pezeshkian told journalists.
However, the demand for Iran to abandon research within the framework of its peaceful nuclear program is absolutely unacceptable, the Iranian president emphasized.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump had sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei with proposals regarding the nuclear deal, coupled with a threat to resolve the matter by military means if diplomacy failed.
Iran declined direct negotiations with the United States but agreed to indirect talks mediated by Oman. The first and third rounds of talks took place in Oman, while the second round was held in Rome.
